The National Museum on web and social media

As in previous years, in 2019 the National Museum used the accounts on the social networks Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Youtube as official communication channels. An official profile on the Linked-in platform was newly created in the fourth quarter, for which we do not yet have enough data to include it in this evaluation.

The communication focused mainly on the promotion of exhibitions and events, the attractive presentation of collection items and activities of the staff of the National Museum and, last but not least, the presentation of new scientific discoveries of individual departments of the National Museum. Following current trends, Instagram and Facebook stories were newly used in communication, and at the same time video content and hashtags were used to a greater extent, especially the newly set official hashtag of the National Museum #narodnimuzeum, which we used to label content on social networks.

Promotion of the National Museum

In 2019, the National Museum commemorated two significant anniversaries, namely 100 years of Czech Egyptology and 30 years since the Velvet Revolution. These anniversaries were also reflected in the plan of promotional activities.

As a central project of 2019, the Tutankhamun RealExperience exhibition was supported by an intensive campaign in the autumn months through all marketing channels. Leaflets were distributed, posters were pasted in Prague and also in the regions. At the same time, we focused on communication in the spirit of current trends - i.e. through social networks and online portals. The project also had a TV spot on Czech Television.

The Velvet Revolution exhibition to mark the 30th anniversary of 1989 has been supported by an intensive campaign in the winter months through all marketing channels. Leaflets were distributed, posters were pasted in Prague and also in the regions. At the same time, we focused on communication in the spirit of current trends - i.e. through social networks and online portals. The anniversary videomapping of the Historical Building of the National Museum also played a major role in the promotion.

The main exhibition of the Czech Museum of Music for 2019 Import/Export/Rock´n´roll was supported by a promotional campaign in the spring months and the exhibition On the Banks of the Nile, the main exhibition of the Náprstek Museum for 2019, was supported by a promotional campaign during the summer.

Attendance of the National Museum

In 2019, a record number of people, 1,125,637, visited the National Museum. The largest share in the total number of visitors to the National Museum last year was the Historical Building, which was visited by almost 800,000 visitors.

However, other objects were also of great interest, such as the New Building of the National Museum, the Czech Museum of Music and the Náprstek Museum of Asian, African and American Cultures.

The most successful exhibition projects in terms of attendance were the Czech-Slovak / Slovak-Czech Exhibition and the Tutankhamun RealExperience exhibition in the Historical Building of the National Museum. In other buildings, it was the Celts exhibition in the New Building of the National Museum, On the Banks of the Nile in the Náprstek Museum of Asian, African and American Cultures or the exhibition Import/Export/Rock´n´roll in the Czech Museum of Music.
