Exhibitions and events
In 2020, the exhibitions of the National Museum were significantly affected by the ongoing pandemic, which made its buildings inaccessible to the public for a large part of the year. Nevertheless, during the period in which restrictions were loosened, the unique international exhibition Kings of the Sun, which documents the greatest archaeological discoveries of Czech Egyptologists in Abusir, was opened in the Museum Complex of the National Museum on Wenceslas Square. The exhibition 1620. Road to the Mountain commemorated the 400th anniversary of one of the most famous battles in the history of the Czech lands. The exhibition Music Menagerie at the Czech Museum of Music showed music lovers parallels between art and the animal kingdom, and the exhibition Famous Czech Composers in the Museum Complex presented the greats of Czech music in a slightly non-standard comic and audio-visual design. Those interested in non-European cultures were able to visit the unique exhibition At Home in Siberia and get to know the environment of many nations that have been able to adapt to demanding natural conditions.
In 2020, we managed to open the first part of the newly built exhibitions in the Museum Complex of the National Museum, namely the Hall of Minerals, which represents the most interesting and beautiful pieces of the mineralogical collection through more than 4,000 exhibits. In the exhibition it is possible to see, for example, several shapes of gold, silver, diamonds or graphite in pure form.
In response to the restrictions caused by the epidemic, in 2020 the National Museum launched its new on-line exhibition project called Virtual Tour of the Museum. As part of this project, 20 exhibitions were converted from individual buildings into digital form. These on-line exhibitions allow visitors to learn about interesting topics and objects from the safety and comfort of their own home.
